Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Gets a Writer

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - the fourth film of the blockbuster franchise - won't hit theaters until May 20th, but there's already serious talk about a fifth Pirates film. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnny Depp ('Captain Jack Sparrow') said he'd be willing to consider donning his pirate gear once more for a Pirates 5. "As long as we can put all the puzzle pieces together, I would most definitely consider it," revealed Depp. And now word comes from Variety that Disney's signed up Terry Rossio to work on the script.

What makes the news a little strange is that Rossio has written all four of the Pirates of the Caribbean films with Ted Elliott, however Elliott apparently isn't going to be involved in Pirates of the Caribbean 5. No reason's been given yet for the hiring of Rossio but not Elliott.

The studio hasn't made a deal with a director but On Stranger Tides' director, Rob Marshall (Chicago,
Nine), has reportedly been asked to return.
